The Alps, a mountain range in Europe, were reshaped by glaciers during the last ice ages. In the northern foothills of the Alps, the glacier tongues reached as far as Munich and left behind numerous glacial lakes, such as Lake Chiemsee, during the glacial melting phases.

Currently – that is, during the Anthropocene epoch – the landscape is increasingly being altered by our human impacts. In particular, alpine tourism and hut and ski lift construction can contribute to the increasing destruction of alpine/high-alpine natural space.

In this archive you will find photos that show the historical forms of glaciers and also some human influence. The regions include the Chiemgau Alps.
